The Lord has several names to express to us that we are His beloved. He gives us the whole book of Song of Songs to show His love as the Bride-Groom lover to us, the beloved Bride. The apostle John really understood what an intimate relationship Christ offers us. In John 13:23, he refers to himself as “the disciple whom Jesus loved.” Both Paul and John, in their writings to the churches, refer to believers as the “Beloved of God” (Romans 1:7). The Greek word in this verse means “beloved, esteemed, dear, favorite, worthy of love” (Strong, J. 1998).
His intimate names for us truly show how deeply we are loved, cherished and treasured by God. Don’t miss the part of the meaning of “beloved” that we are His favorite!
“As a bridegroom rejoiced over his bride, so will your God rejoice over you.” Isaiah 62:5b
