The Hebrew language is one of the most descript languages on the planet earth. It is no wonder that God chose for this to be the language of His people. Instead of one word to describe God’s delight in us, He uses sixteen Hebrew words in the Old Testament for the word "delight" that refer to pleasure, being pleased with, or other expressions of this meaning.
Can you see that God really wants us to understand how much He delights in us?
Below are four of the Hebrew words uses in the passages we are studying today. Look at each Hebrew word and its definition to better understand each verse:
“And the men of Judah are the garden of His delight (‘shashua’-enjoyment, delight, pleasure). Isaiah 5:7b
“But you will be called Hephzibah (my delight is in her), and your land Beulah; for the Lord will take delight (‘chaphets’-to be pleased with, desire, favor, delight, like, move, be well pleased, have pleasure) in you.” Isaiah 62:4
“As a bridegroom rejoices over his bride, so will your God rejoice (‘masos’- delight, the cause or object of the feeling of joy, mirth, rejoice) over you.” Isaiah 62:5b
“Here is my servant, whom I uphold, my chosen one in whom I delight (‘ratsah’ – to be pleased with, to satisfy a debt, to be acceptable, accomplish, set affection, approve, consent with, delight, enjoy, to have favor, like, pardon, to take pleasure, to reconcile oneself). Isaiah 42:1
What are some of the names you’ve heard spoken about yourself this week? What are some of the names you have spoken over yourself this week? Maybe some were words similar to "stupid,” “worthless,” “failure,” “unwanted,” “rejected,” “inadequate,” “ugly,” etc. These are all lies, dear sister.
God has a n e w n a m e for you; one that He wants to share with you that is just for you.
Bring those lies, that feed your thoughts, to the feet of Jesus today. Go to God’s word to replace these names with the true names that God has given you (like the ones above). Receive your new name, dear sister and walk in truth…
