The Greatest Gift

When I was twelve years old, I asked for a Pearl ring for Christmas. Finally, Christmas came, and I excitedly tore open each present. With each gift, my eagerness lessened. Finally, I lifted up the last gift. With a glimmer of hope, I ripped open a very large present hoping my parents were trying to trick me. But…NO RING! I excused myself and went to the bathroom to cry. When I came out my mother handed me a tiny box. Madly I tore it open and there it was - a beautiful gold Pearl ring!

Though that was an incredible gift, the greatest gift I ever received was four years later when my friend introduced me to Jesus. That day I invited Jesus to forgive my sins and begin a relationship with me. In John 1:12 we learn that when we receive this gift, it is free and will last eternally. It is the most expensive gift ever bought for us because it cost the Giver, Jesus Christ, His very life.

Christmas is a time of celebrating the birth of Christ. "For to us a child is a born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on His shoulders. And He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace" (Isaiah 9:6). Bring all your burdens to the Prince of Peace this holiday and He will give you rest.

You too can receive the Lord's gift of the most beautiful friendship that comes with many other blessings - prayer, the Spirit’s healing power, wisdom, forgiveness, God’s love, and more. May you receive the greatest gift of all this Christmas! Merry Christmas my friends!
