Prince of Peace // Part 1

“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on His shoulders. And He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6).

I am quickly approaching one of those major transitional times in life when my first child will soon go off to college. He will move to another continent, so he won’t be stopping in on the weekends! One year after that, my daughter will go to University and my husband and I will leave Asia where I have lived for 25 years. In major transitions like these, knowing that I have the Prince of Peace leading me gives me great courage and comfort. Our Wonderful Counselor, Almighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace go with us wherever we go.

So many Scriptures flood my soul when I contemplate this transition. “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own” (Matthew 6:34). The Lord gives us enough grace to handle each day. If we start to worry about how things will play out in the future, we will become overwhelmed. God is in control of our future. Of course, we need to make some plans ahead of time. For example, I am helping my son find financial aid to support him through his four years of college. But it is not helpful to ponder on the unknowns, such as: “How will I handle having my son gone from our house?” or “Will he be able to fit into the American culture which he has never lived in?” God will give my family the grace we need in the future when we need it and not a day before!

This is why Jesus tells us not to worry about the future. Rather than spending the time worrying, use your time to meditate on and thank the Lord for His love and faithfulness. The Prince of Peace is standing right beside you. Call out to Him right now. Surrender your worries. Receive His assurance that he has everything under control and He will provide for all you need every moment that you require it!
