A Living Hope

When we wake up and feel like we do not want to get out of bed in the morning because there is no point in life, we can be sure there is a spiritual battle going on. When we feel like we cannot face the challenges, the emptiness, or the mundaneness of the day, this too is a spiritual battle. 80% of women face these feelings at some time in their lives, so you are not alone. Though there are legitimate things that have triggered our depression, Satan fuels our emotions with lies. “What is the point of getting up? I will just fail at whatever I do.” Or, “No one needs me, so I might as well stay in bed.” Or, “Life is too hard. I just cannot face it.” Or, “Without _______, there is no point to go on living!”

This is when we need to “take every thought captive to make it obedient to Christ” (2 Corinthians 10:5). Immediately begin to pray and give the Lord your feelings of depression. Engage in prayer and get others to pray for you. “The weapons (prayer) we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds” (2 Corinthians 10:3-4). Don’t give into the lies that accompany your defeated emotions. Reject these lies and then take on the truth and promises of the Word. Use the name of Jesus when you pray against these lies. Share this struggle with a trusted friend to help you get a more objective perspective and then pray together.

Claim the truth that: “We are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do” (Ephesians 2:10). Do you see how meaningful this verse is when you are feeling hopeless? God created you with all that you need to fulfill His purpose on earth. He wants to use your past experiences (even the sinful and negative ones) to enable you to minister to others...
