Letter Fourteen

Imagine you were one of the women followers of Jesus during his three-year ministry on earth. What would it be like as you heard his teachings, walked by his side, and watched his ministry?

Dear sister,

It has been a busy time of ministry. We went to Capernaum so Jesus could continue spreading God’s message. While in the synagogue, a man with an evil spirit began to shout at Jesus. His words let all of us know that it was not the man speaking, but rather evil spirits within him. He said, “What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are – the Holy One of God!” Though many do not yet realize the true identity of Jesus, the evil spirits are quite aware of who he is. It was so exciting to witness the authority of Jesus when he silenced the demons and ordered them to come out of the man. Though they shook the man violently, they were forced to obey our Lord and come out him.

Sister, I feel so secure around Jesus. Even though he is receiving persecution, including threats of violence, I see that He has ultimate authority over evil. I realize that there is no safer place to be than in the presence of our Lord. In fact, even when we are sick, he has the power to heal. After the synagogue incident, we all went to the home of Simon Peter and Andrew. When we got there, we discovered that Peter’s mother-in-law was sick in bed with a fever. Jesus went to her, touched her hand, and healed her. She instantly was better and able to cook and serve us. Later that night, many from the town came to the house and

Jesus healed their diseases and drove out demons.

Often, with just one word the demons fled.

I am not sure I will be able to sleep tonight! It has been an incredible day. I can hardly believe that I am getting to witness the Lord’s ministry of healing and deliverance. Sister, I cannot begin to describe the exhilaration of seeing so many healed who have suffered for so long. Our Lord is not only powerful, but full of compassion. Please pray for strength for all of us followers as our days of ministry are long and intense.

Wishing you were here to see all this firsthand!

Your Big Sister

Today’s Bible Reading: Mark 1:21-34, Luke 4:31-41, Matthew 8:16-17

Today’s Application:

Are you living in fear of the enemy? The Lord says that “the One who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world” (1 John 4:4). He gives you the authority to use His name to rebuke any spirits of fear and reject the lies of the enemy that tell you to live in fear. Paul reminds us that to live in fear is to live in slavery. But God has set us free from this by adopting us as His children.

“For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship.” (Romans 8:15). Confess your fears to God. Then in Jesus name, reject the lies leading you to fear and ask God to give you faith, peace, protection, and healing. If this fear has been consuming you, in Jesus name and authority, command the spirits of fear to leave you and go to the foot of the cross (see Colossians 2:15). In God’s power and mercy, may you be set free from any bondage to fear.
